The book has been beautifully rebound in leather. The front and back boards have a gilt border, the spine has decorated raised bands with the title near the head and the date on the tail, all in gilt. The edges are chipped and the leather knocked at the head of the spine and along its front edge and again one small section on the outer edge of the front board. There are new end papers, although the original have been retained; there are three ownership sigantures on the original front end paper, all in ink, the last one being David Spode's, Australian antiquarian bookseller; the pages tanned with intermittent foxing. Pages 125 to 128 have been rough cut by the printer. For all its faults, it remains a handsome volume illustrated with woodcuts by Bewick.
