The Snowy: Cradle of a New Australia

Kobal, Ivan
"From time to time many articles have been published on various features of the Snowy Mountains Scheme about its many spectacular dams & its powerful generating stations; about the achievements of its tunnellers in breaking world records for tunnelling speeds; about its completion well within the initial estimate. Those who initially conceived the Scheme, its designers, the scientists who sought & found answers to the many engineering problems, all these people have received recognition through the press, the radio & other channels. There is a modest group, however, who are seldom mentioned. They are the ordinary Snowy workers, including particularly the men who in the early & tough days of the Schemes construction went out into the mountains & gorges of the inhospitable area, living under canvas or at the best, rough huts throughout Snowy winters." ( Front flap, words of encouragement given to the author in 1975 by the late Sir William Hudson Commisssioner of the Snowy Mountains Authority)
