An encyclopædia of agriculture : comprising the theory and practice of the valuation, transfer, laying out, improvement, and management of landed property, and the cultivation and economy of the animal and vegetable productions of agriculture,............
......... including all the latest improvements, a general history of agriculture in all countries, and a statistical view of its present state, with suggestions for its future progress in the British Isles. Third edition. Illustrated with upwards of eleven hundred engravings on wood by Branston." The book has been rebound in green library binding and has new paste downs and end papers. The title on the spine is in gilt. The title page has been clipped at the head to remove an ownership signature leaving only the date. Both sides of the title page are stained with remnant sticky tape marks from a previous, pre-recasing repair. PP 224 and 245 have been stained towards the middle by the inclusion of a four leaf clover, whose removal has left a minute tear on p.244. There is a similar stain on pp 370-71. Page 1009 has been short cut and a short tear at the outer edge has been repaired with acid free tape as has a longer, horizontal tear on page 1015, which crosses half the page. Page 1023 is also short cut. From pp. 1009 to 1025 the pages are stained along the edge and are not flush with the rest of the book. This is only obvious at the fore-edge when the book is closed and suggests that the pages were loose before the rebinding. Pages 1373/4 are torn at the outer edge, resulting in minor loss to the script. For the rest, the book is clean and has no inner markings and the binding solid. 1378 pages, making it a heavy book.
