A previous owner has reinforced some of the hinges with masking tape: pp 4/5, 308/309 and 338/389 (remnant stain) and the blank page opposite "Table des Matieres". The tape has leaked to the verso of each page, though there the stain is weaker. A good only copy, clean and unmarked, but in shaky binding, not bad enough to make the book uncomforable to read. Printed beneath the edition statement: En dépôt à l' Alliance Israélite. "The Alliance israélite universelle is a Paris-based international Jewish organization founded in 1860 by the French statesman Adolphe Crémieux to safeguard the human rights of Jews around the world. The organization promotes the ideals of Jewish self-defense and self-sufficiency through education and professional development. It is noted for establishing French-language schools for Jewish children throughout the Mediterranean and the Ottoman Empire in the 19th and early 20th century." Tragic and ironic given that 10 years later, Hitler was elected chancellor.
