180 pages, frontispiece of author in seal suit, and a second plate titled "Killing the Sea Elephant", this one with tissue guard. The original spine strip has been replaced with a blank brown strip; there is intermittent foxing throughout the book; pp 99 to 118 are literally hanging on by a thread, causing the hinge to crack; page 130 has a handwritten strip attached to the head repeating the last two lines on page 129; ink stains on the head's blank outer edge pp 100 to 103, and on pp 115to 127, again on the head's blank outer edge, a nicotine coloured stain. It's not a pretty copy, but apart from the loose pages, solid enough to be read and definitely worth rebinding. Not recommended for the perfectionist. Full tile: "Narrative of a Voyage to the South Seas, and the Shipwreck of the Princess of Wales Cutter, with an account of a two years' residence on an uninhabited island by one of the survivors"
