The Select Works of Lawrence Sterne In Four Volumes (Vols.1, 2, 3,4)
In all four volumes the marbled boards are badly rubbed, the leather chipped and all suffer from minor foxing. Volume 1: the frontispiece has a short closed tear; the front end paper is partially detached head and tail, but at no risk of complete detachment, p.i-xii are creased along the blank outer edge, p. vii also carrying a short closed tear, again at the outer edge. Volume 4: the head of the spine is lightly singed, and its front end paper, as well as the title and half-title page are partially detached at the head. The contents page is detached at both the head and tail, and its edge bumped. Beyond this, and it's not pretty, the book is in excellent condition. Despite its faults, it remains a nice set. Volume 1,2,3 contain 'The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy with a Life of the Author'. Volume 4: Sentimental Journey; Continuation; Letters to Eliza; History of a Good, Warm Watch-coat.
